Sound Off: What to Say to Your Elected Officials

Tell your elected officials in Raleigh that workers' compensation reform is a bad idea. Urge them to stand up for the rights of injured people by voting against any legislation to change the N.C. Workers' Compensation Act.

If you were injured or disabled on the job, please share your personal experiences with the North Carolina’s workers’ comp system. Let the elected officials know how real working people would be affected if the law changes.

Download a sample letter that you can send to your legislator.

Some key points to mention in your email, letter or phone call:

  • Cutting off workers’ comp after 9 ½ years will mean workers with serious, lifelong injuries won’t be able to pay for medical care or support their families
  • Changing the law would shift the responsibility and the cost of caring for injured and disabled workers from insurance companies and employers to taxpayers
  • Insurance companies and businesses have a moral and legal RESPONSIBILITY to take care of people who are hurt on the job
  • Reform puts insurance company profits ahead of worker safety
  • Workers’ comp reform in other states has slashed benefits for injured workers, and it has cost taxpayers while insurance companies and big businesses have profited
  • Injured workers who can’t return to their old jobs shouldn’t be forced to take low-paying jobs without benefits because the insurance companies don’t want to fulfill their responsibility of providing workers’ comp benefits
  • Voters expect their elected officials to stand up for workers’ rights
